Assignment 1 - Leisure Definition

This is a picture of me dancing with my friends, kind of, kind of dancing with myself at the moment. It was at a friend of mines Mexican-American club debutante ball and we all decided to go at the last minute. My friends and I danced all night to the loud Mexican band on stage. It represents one of the most fun nights of my life, my friends and family were there and everyone was having fun. This picture shows me having fun, which is an integral part of my definition of leisure. My definition of leisure is free time that is spent doing something that you enjoy or have fun doing.

Assignment 1- Leisure Definition

This is a picture of my sister and I on a beach in Englewood, Florida. My family and I travel down to Florida every winter for vacation. While in Florida, I enjoy doing many activities with my family such as going to the beach, taking walks and jet skiing. This picture represents leisure because spending time in Florida with my family is a way for me to get away from the stresses of school and athletics. I rarely get the chance to spend time with my family, but when I get the opportunity to, I like to take advantage. I cherish the time with my family because I know that it is important, especially since I am now in college. Leisure is free time spent doing an activity that one enjoys and can positively benefit from.

Assignment 1 - Leisure Definition

Leisure to me is having fun as well as getting gains from any activity one does. This picture represents chess thinking, which one gets a lot out of from in my opinion. I love chess. I was the president of the chess club in my High School. Not only is chess fun, but it helps me think outside the box and plan out for the future to accomplish big in the future. It also helps me learn from the mistakes I do. Defining leisure is having laid back time using your time wisely to gain from the activity.

This is a photo of the scene at an Illinois basketball game in Assembly Hall. All the people in the gym have decided to come to this place because they enjoy either playing or watching the sport of basketball. They have chosen to come to the game as a part of their own leisure time. I chose this picture to represent my leisure time because during my free time I like to involve myself in either watching or playing sports. The word leisure has many different meanings to many different people. However, one thing everyone can agree on is leisure time is an enjoyable period in which people can indulge themselves in an event that brings them happiness. Leisure is the part of the day when someone can finally achieve freedom from their daily tasks and jobs and instead of following orders they can do whatever they desire. Leisure is not only a necessity it is also the best part of the day.

Assignment 1 - Leisure Definition

The picture to the right was taken on an ATV trip in Denali, Alaska this past summer. The ATV trip involved riding dirt trails along Alaska's natural wonders including mountains, rivers and wildlife. The picture represents an escape--a form of relaxation, recreation, and a way to connect to the world outside of stressful business, school and family schedules. That is what leisure is to me. Leisure is a way to relieve oneself from a hectic job, society, or economy and is the balance between body and mind. The purpose of leisure activities, similar to an ATV adventure, is for a person to realize that they are not killing time, but making life more enjoyable during their free time. Leisure has been described as a time free from obligation and finding yourself occupied in something desirable for one's sake. Hence, leisure activities should bring happiness and rejuvenation, rather than simply occupying time. Without a doubt, there was a sense of balance and happiness when I took part in the ATV trip as I explored the state of the "Midnight Sun" and would participate in an activity similar with no hesitation.
